Adding a little 'je ne sais quois' to existing, mature evergreens is one of my favourite things to do. Many medium to large evergreen shrubs are left to grow into heavy, shapeless, rounded blobs. Given thoughtful pruning and time - most plants require a few years of return visits - the same plants can be transformed into beautiful and visually 'lighter' elements for your garden.
